This discussion, which takes place at 11:30am on Thursday 6 February, in Hall 23, F-01, within the Fresh Produce Forum, will cover actionable strategies to empower smallholder producers and promote responsible agriculture through advocacy and enhanced visibility in local and global markets.

Real-world success stories will highlight the transformative impact of smallholder initiatives, based on the experiences of two panellists: Janine Basso Lisboa, project manager at AgroDtech in Brazil, and Manal Saleh, founder of Egypt’s Blue Moon . Together with Dr Coetzer-Boersma, these panellists will showcase the tangible advancements small-scale producers are making in their respective regions.

Dr Coetzer-Boersma will also present proven, cost-effective solutions, and will demonstrate substantial ways that smallholders can transform the resiliency of global agriculture.

“Small-scale producers play a significant role in meeting the world’s growing demand for fresh fruits and vegetables. However, navigating complex supply chain logistics, managing limited capital resources, and complying with rigorous regulatory requirements all tend to hinder their access to the formal markets that supply larger retailers,” GlobalGAP said.

“GlobalGAP sees these challenges as a vast and underutilised opportunity to promote the adoption of responsible farming practices through collaboration and capacity-building initiatives to transform smallholder operations. “

GlobalGAP is inviting Fruit Logistica attendees to connect with its representatives at Stand F-60 in Hall 27, from 5 to 7 February. Experts will be available to discuss innovative farm-assurance solutions and the benefits of farm certification.

“For industry stakeholders passionate about shaping the future of agriculture, this event is an unmissable opportunity to gain insights, share experiences, and champion the vital role of smallholders in promoting responsible farming at the global level,” GlobalGAP said.
