Sligro

Netherlands-based retailer Sligro has this week announced that sales climbed slightly by 0.7 per cent through the third quarter of the year, up to €553m from the €549m recorded in the same period of 2009.

Organic growth hit 2.4 per cent, the group revealed, with its Wholesale Food Service division achieving a 1 per cent increase in turnover to €376m, Dow Jones reported.

'Market conditions remain challenging,' the group noted in a statement, adding that the consumer market was showing little signs of an immediate recovery and competition in the country remained fierce.

Sligro revealed in July that its net profit for the first half of the year rose 4.6 per cent to €28m compared with the same period of 2009, as sales increased slightly by 2.7 per cent to hit €1.1bn.
