Container shipping lines Hamburg Sud, Maersk Line, CMA CGM, CSAV and CSCL have reached an agreement to combine their services between Asia, South Africa and the East coast of South America in an effort to balance supply and demand during the winter period of traditionally weak demand.
Hamburg Sud and Maersk Line on the one hand, and CMA-CGM, CSAV and CSCL on the other will merge their services from December until next May. Each group is currently operating two weekly services in the trade.
According to industry press reports, MSC and CMA CGM have stressed that this latest cooperation is in no way an amalgamation. No staff have been affected and no facilities will be shared.
