The port of Sète in France is set to open its new €25m fruit terminal this summer, according to a report from IFW.
The facility measures some 25,000m2 and is being financed by operator Reefer Terminal Sètois (RFS), part of Italian importer and distributor GF Group.
Of the terminal's 500,000-tonne capacity, Israeli shipper Agrexco, which temporarily transfered its operations from Marseille to Italian port Savone Vado in early 2009, is expected to require around 200,000 tonnes a year.
A 10-year investment programme has been put in place by the regional acuthority, totalling €300m.
A second gantry crane will reportedly serve Sète's fuit terminal, while plans are also afoot for a 450-metre deepwater quay, expected to be ready in 2014.
