Dutch greenhouse firm takes major step forward as it seeks to cut direct and indirect gas emissions from its business
Greenhouse developer Kubo has become one of the first Dutch companies of its kind to receive approval from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), for its efforts to meet the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement.
In March, the group announced targets for the reduction of Scope 1 and 2 carbon dioxide emissions, as well as plans to measure and reduce Scope 3 emissions.
Its new science-based targets are to reduce the former by 42 per cent by 2030, compared with 2022; and to measure and reduce the latter from purchased and sold goods and services.
Bart Bossink, ESG manager at Kubo, said SBTi approval confirmed the company’s ambition to be climate neutral long before 2050.
“We view our journey towards a sustainable future as a positive development for the planet, our employees, and as a significant contribution to food production and security,” Bossink commented.
“Moreover, we see this as fundamental to our role as a pioneer in the high-tech greenhouse construction sector. This approval encourages us to integrate innovation into all our activities and in our relationships with customers and suppliers.”
