French president Nicolas Sarkozy is today due to meet with retailers, farmers and the agrifood industry at the élysée Palace in Paris to find an agreement on reducing margins as a way of assisting farmers, according to Challenges.fr.
'We are soon going to limit margins,' he said at the beginning of the month. 'There must be a commitment from retailers to reduce margins. I will sign an agreement with them this month.'
The agreement specifically seeks to 'moderate margins while fruit and vegetable prices paid to producers are in crisis', said Mr Sarkozy.
The president equally reiterated that France would not cede a single element of CAP, the common agricultural policy, which is to be reformed for 2013.
