S&A Produce has secured an exclusivity agreement with Italian fruit growers Vivai Salvi and Vivai Mazzoni and plant breeder CIV (Consorzio Italiano Vivaisti) to grow and market the Italian strawberry variety Capri in the UK.

Freshinfo reported that the move follows a successful eight-yearpartnership between the parties, which has seen S&A trialling the everbearer variety for the last two years.

Michelangalo Leis, director at Vivai Mazzoni and Marco Ferrari, regional manager at Salvi Vivai, said in a joint statement: 'This agreement will make the partnership between ourselves and S&A even stronger and is evidence of S&A's capability to launch new varieties into the market.'

Next year, 'several million' Capri plants will be grown at S&A's sites across the UK.
