Spanish fresh produce cooperative SAT San Cayetano is increasingly turning its attention to eastern European markets, with the Murcia-based group aiming to strengthen its exports to the Czech Republic, Hungary and the Baltic states.
In a statement, San Cayetano managing director José García Ruiz (pictured) said that one of the company’s objectives for 2009 was to increase its client base throughout Europe.
Mr García said that the company was aiming to achieve this by strengthening its market position in a number of countries including Russia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Hungary.
This, he said, will add to San Cayetano’s exports to leading western European markets, such as Germany, France, the UK and the Netherlands.
Although the California pepper variety and celery remain the cooperative’s principal exports, Mr García said the group was also seeking to consolidate its citrus production and exports during the course of 2009.
Torre Pacheco-based Saye Cayetano is comprised of 136 grower members who together produce an average of 70,000 tonnes of peppers, celery and citrus – worth more than €37m – on 2,100ha in Murcia.
