Russia ranks behind just Brazil and China in terms of future online sales potential, with over 60m internet users making it the largest online population in Europe.
A new survey by consulting company AT Kearney pointed to the country's 15m online shoppers in placing it as the third most attractive market for online retail sales.
According to the report, the value of the online retail market is set to boom to US$16bn (€12.7bn) by 2016, with domestic grocers such as X5 and overseas companies committed to developing online trade in Russia, the Moscow Time reported.
The AT Kearney ranking of emerging markets also included Chile, Mexico, the UAE, Malaysia, Uruguay, Turkey and Oman.
