Exports of Russian fruit and vegetables to the EU fell by nearly threefold in 2024 compared to 2023, while vegetable imports into Russia increased by 10 per cent

Russia’s vegetable imports increased by 9.9 per cent year-on-year in 2024, with fruit imports rising by 2.4 per cent compared with 2023, according to Rosselkhoznadzor, the country’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision.

Rosselkhoznadzor revealed that vegetable imports increased to 1.7mn tonnes last year, while fruit imports rose to 6.1mn tonnes.

Russia’s imports of peaches, plums and cherries reportedly increased by 3.9 per cent to 722,600 tonnes, with Turkey serving as the main supplier, according to Anadolu Agency.

Meanwhile, EU imports of Russian fruits and vegetables experienced a year-on year drop of nearly threefold to €121.1mn, according to Eurostat statistics reported by Russian news agency RIA Novosti.

The value of vegetables imported from Russia totalled €84mn, with fruit and nut imports standing at €17.1mn.

Legumes were the main vegetable exported from Russia to the EU, while asparagus, aubergines and celery also gained popularity during 2024.
