Ronan Raes has retired from his position as european quality and external affairs director of Antwerp-based fresh produce importer Leon Van Parys (Bonita), following 35 years’ service with the company.
Mr Raes, known as Ronny to his friends and colleagues, began his career with Chiquita before moving to Leon Van Parys, where he held a a number of senior positions in sales, shipping and quality assurance as well as being a board member.
During the last 10 years, he held the post of european quality and external affairs director, where he made major contributions in establishing a web based quality assurance system, product traceability and pesticide residue control management for the company.
Mr Raes has also worked with Bonita’s major suppliers in the establishment of GlobalGAP certification for the farms which pack Bonita fruit.
In a statement, the board of Leon Van Parys said that Mr Raes’ “dedication and hard work during 35 years with Bonita is an example to us all and his long experience will be sadly missed”.
“He has selflessly given his time and experience to establish industry consensus on the many challenges that the fruit and vegetable industry has faced in the last years,” the statement added.
