The United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has revealed that the first Multi-Stakeholder Forum on Sustainable Banana Production and Trade will be held in Rome, Italy later this year.

The event, which takes place on 7-8 December, will immediately precede the 5th Conference of the Inter-Governmental Group on Bananas and Tropical Fruit, according to a report in the Banana Trade News Bulletin.

An agenda for the meeting was drawn up at the second preparatory meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, last month, which brought together around 30 governmental, company and civil representatives.

Forum discussion will centre around a number of key points, including sustainable banana production from social, economic and environmental perspectives, fair pricing for the supply chain and labour issues.
