Rijk Zwaan South Africa has announced that it will take over the sales activities from current Rijk Zwaan distributors Javelin Seeds and Filmflex Plastics on 1 July 2015.

With the establishment of this new sales subsidiary, Rijk Zwaan noted that it expects to reach a stronger market position in the region.

'Rijk Zwaan has been active in South Africa for more than 20 years,' the group said in a statement. 'Thanks to the efforts of its local distributors, Rijk Zwaan is already a very well known brand in the protected cultivation sector, and has grown to being market leader in cucumber and leafy salad crops with a strong position in several other crops, such as sweet pepper, tomato and melon. Rijk Zwaan South Africa will further build on these foundations and use the structure and systems of Rijk Zwaan to realise the next phase of growth.'

In the coming months, Javelin Seeds and Filmflex will continue trading as normal while preparations for the official establishment of Rijk Zwaan South Africa on 1 July 2015 are being made.
