The seed specialist will showcase products like Tatayoyo and Tropical Sunshine in Berlin, while also strengthening its partnerships
Rijk Zwaan has said that its presence at Fruit Logistica 2025 showed its commitment to driving innovation and collaboration in the fruit and vegetable sector.
“At Fruit Logistica, we’re excited about showcasing innovative products developed by our breeding teams to benefit growers, retailers and consumers,” said Jan Doldersum, manager chain and retail at Rijk Zwaan.
“One of the highlights is our Tropical Sunshine watermelon – a bright yellow water melon with a delightfully sweet flavour,” he outlined.
”Thanks to our partnership with retailer Woolworths and growers, this eye-catching watermelon is already lighting up shelves and bringing smiles to consumers’ faces in South Africa, for example.”
Another product in the Berlin spotlight is Tatayoyo, the group’s award-winning, ready-to-eat, snack-size pepper that won the Fruit Logistica Innovation Award 2023.
“This spring, it will be first launched at European Lidl stores thanks to their collaboration with dedicated partners Scherpenhuizen in the Netherlands and Unica Group in Spain,” said Doldersum.
”Together, we’re making this bursting-with-flavour snack-size pepper available to even more consumers.”
The Netherlands-based group emphasised that one of its strengths was that partnerships go beyond product innovation, to create meaningful solutions for the fresh produce value chain.
“Collaboration is key to success,” Doldersum continued. “By working closely with chain partners, we develop solutions that address specific needs while supporting the supply of fresh, healthy vegetables to consumers worldwide.”
An example is Rijk Zwaan’s partnership with Harvest House, to develop a mini plum tomato with high resistance to the Tomato Brown Rugose Fruit Virus (ToBRFV).
This tomato provides growers peace of mind while offering the premium taste and appearance that consumers expect, the company said.
Meanwhile, in snack cucumbers, Rijk Zwaan’s innovations ”combine flavour and a deep green colour with crucial mildew resistance”, benefiting growers like those in the Fresh Valley group.
“We look forward to welcoming new faces as well as existing partners to our stand to discuss how joint innovations can help shape the future of fresh produce,” added Doldersum.
