Dutch vegetable seed company Rijk Zwaan has completed work on its new modernproduction nursery, which is based in De Lier, the Netherlands, by hermetically sealing the facility to meet stringent hygiene guidelines.
According to the group, the design of thefacility allows breeders to limit the risk of seed-borne illnesses in tomatoes and other glasshouse edibles.
A similar production facility will also be opened in Mexico 'in a few weeks', Rijk Zwaan said, with the locationa replica of the De Lier site and also adhering to strict hygienic standards.
The two nurseries are equipped with UV disinfectors for all reservoir and recirculated water, as well as separate points of entry for product inspection and, if necessary, disinfection before entry into the facility.
