Fruit South Africa, the umbrella organisation of the South African fruit industry, has announced that it has appointed Retha Louw as the new programme manager for the Sustainability Initiative of South Africa (SIZA).
At SIZA, the ethical trade platform for the industry, Louw will oversee the implementation of a new data platform that includes an audit request function to add value for its members.
“I love the agricultural sector and during this time I have learned a great deal and was involved with the sector on many levels,” said Louw. “My post with SIZA brings with it new challenges and one main and specific focus. While I was with Hortgro I have travelled abroad to the markets for South African fruit numerous and have had the opportunity to get to know the workings of the entire value chain and made many contacts along the way. This knowledge and experience will assist me with expanding and grow the SIZA initiative and its membership.
“I have a passion to empower and develop people this was part of my responsibility at Hortgro,' she added. 'This lies close to my heart and through SIZA I can continue to make a difference to people working on farms as well to assist growers and retailers with the ethical compliance standards.'
