Leading experts from the retail trade are due to take part in a special session at this year's FRESH Nordic, looking in particular at the various pressures on today's supermarket operators when it comes to selling fresh produce.
Jack Enevoldsen, general manager at Coop Trading, will be joined by Shaun Doherty, technical manager for fresh produce and horticulture at Tesco Ireland, to share their views on the various demands now being placed on major supermarkets to deliver fresh fruit and vegetables that are not only safe and high quality, but also sourced responsibly in terms of the environment and the communities that produce them.
Alongside them will be Lars åström, who recently joined STC Greenfood as chief executive having previously been responsible for fruit, vegetables and flowers at ICA Sweden.
Prior to that he was head of leading supplier Everfresh Group, part of Total Produce.
Making up the panel, meanwhile, will be Sven-åke Nordqvist of Kson Nordqvist Consulting, himself also a former fresh produce retail buyer.
Nordqvist spent eight years in the Netherlands as perishables joint sourcing director for Ahold's subsidiaries and joint ventures across Europe, and before that held leading positions in Swedish wholesale and retail companies including Saba Trading, Coop, Viking Fruit and ICA.
Around 250 fresh produce professionals are expected to attend this year's FRESH, the leading annual conference and networking event for the European fresh produce business, which is organised by Eurofruit and Freshfel Europe.
Delegates who register online by 20 April 2012 will save 20 per cent on their delegate fee.
