A new report has been released looking ahead to the retail trends in North America through 2010, and outlining the key players that will help to shape the market over the next 12 months.
The '10 to Watch in 2010' hot-list, put together by market analyst Planet Retail, features both national and regional grocers that are poised for growth this year, as well as a forecast of key trends that could materialise.
Retailers included on the '10 to Watch' list were Ahold, Price Chopper, Delhaize, WinCo, Dollar General, Aldi, Save-A-Lot (SuperValu), Tops Markets, H-E-B and The Market by Safeway.
Key findings in the report included the prospect of further consolidation on a regional scale in 2010, M&A activity driven by Europe-based grocers in the US, regional grocers leading the way in organics expansion and an anticipated boom in the North American discount retail sector.
