IT Renzo Piraccini Apofruit

Renzo Piraccini, a giant of the Italian and European fresh produce business, has ended his term as head of Apofruit Italia, leaving the Italian group after 39 years, of which nearly 20 have been spent in the role of general manager.

Piraccini, who is set to continue in a new role overseeing both Apofruit's organic business and its partner relations, made the announcement at the cooperative's annual general assembly, where he thanked his colleagues past and present for the development of the group during his tenure.

He will be succeeded by Ilenio Bastoni, Apofruit's current commercial director.

Corriere Ortofrutticolo reported that, at the closing of the budget during the assembly, Piraccini described 2013 as a 'fairly good year' for Apofruit, and highlighted the success of the kiwifruit segment in particular.

The company said it had sold over 180,000 tonnes of product in 2013, down 7 per cent on the previous year. However, continuing a recent trend, that volume generated slightly higher revenues of €208m (up 2 per cent) and net profit of €523,000, compared with €450,000 in 2012.
