Apofruit directors

Mario Tamanti, Renzo Piraccini and Ernesto Fornari

Renzo Piraccini has been appointed as the new chief executive of leading Italian fresh produce cooperative Apofruit Italia, effective from 1 January 2011, it has been revealed.

The announcement puts into context Mr Piraccini's recent decision to step down as managing director of Italian fresh produce marketing and research agency CSO, a move which was confirmed in mid-December.

In addition, Mario Tramanti has been named as director of the group's main Apofruit division.

Mr Piraccini commented: 'The change in personnel is part of a long-term programme of renewals. The aim behind this is to centralise the group in terms of strategic objectives and to leave the operational side to the group's members, as it is in a cooperative entity.'

Ernesto Fornari will continue as president of Apofruit Italia's organic division Canova, which is responsible for marketing leading Italian organics brand Almaverde Bio.
