In 2009, Netherlands-based logistics provider Euro Pool System recorded a record number of more than 600m rotations, a 7 per cent increase over 2008.
At last week’s Fruit Logistica in Berlin, Mr Clavel, CEO of Spanish supplier Iberiana, symbolically handed over the 600-millionth crate to Kai Hubert, senior buyer of fruit and vegetables for German retailer Bartels-Langness.
According to the company, the increase is due to the growing use of Euro Pool System’s crates within the sector, as European retailers discover the advantages of working with the company.
Mr Hubert commented: “Euro Pool System offers a series of advantages: a sustainable solution and a decrease in waste disposal costs. Besides, the crates are always available both nationally and internationally. That’s why we’ve been working with Euro Pool System for years.”
Peter Willems, CEO of Euro Pool System, thanked both organisations for their trust. “In the six biggest European fruit and vegetable-producing countries, we have an average market share of 41 per cent,” he said. “What’s more, our crates are ranked among the best in the market. These advantages have led us to achieve considerable growth, not only in the number of rotations, but also in the expansion of our European customer portfolio. Euro Pool System is proud of its results, particularly in light of the worldwide crisis.”
