Purfresh cargo

The European Patent Office has granted supply chain management group Purfresh patent number 2107936 for its active atmosphere technology, entitled 'Shipping Container Ozonation System'.

'This patent coverage in Europe supports our goal of revolutionising the shipping industry of how fresh produce is shipped around the world,' said Brian Westcott, president and CEO of Purfresh.

'Fresh produce losses due to microbial decay during transit is staggering,' he added. 'As more and more food is shipped around the world, implementation of our technology is even more critical as it reduces waste and protects the quality of the cargo – delivering fresh fruits and vegetables to consumers worldwide.'

The patented system enhances the atmosphere inside a refrigerated container with an active form of oxygen (ozone) to control moulds, yeasts, ethylene, Salmonella, E.coli, Listeria and other contaminants, both in the air and on surfaces.
