David Cope Purfresh

US purification and preservation technology group Purfresh has revealed this week that its president and chief executive officer David Cope has been appointed by the Produce Marketing Association (PMA) to serve on the Food Safety, Science and Technology Committee.

The Committee is designed to review and interpret new produce safety, science and technology developments, and prepare recommendations for industry adoption.

'I am honoured to be given the opportunity to serve as a member of the Food Safety, Science and Technology Committee, whose focus and mission is both timely and critical to the produce and broader food industry,' said Mr Cope.

'I am pleased that both Purfresh's and my technical and food industry experiences can work in cooperation with the PMA and such a power group of industry leaders to tackle a problem as important as the safety of fresh food,' he added. 'I look forward to leveraging this collective expertise to ensure food safety practices and technologies are approachable, effective and minimise friction in the industry by working closely with existing processes.'

Primary roles and responsibilities of the Committee include monitoring and discussing emerging food science, safety and technology solutions; providing strategic direction in helping staff evaluate key food safety and technology regulatory or legislative requests for industry input; and translating complex technical issues into viable, business applications and solutions for the produce industry.
