New Zealand fresh produce marketer Turners and Growers (T&G) has announced that Kiwifruit Vine Health has notified it of the first suspected case of Psa-V in Kerikeri.

The suspected case of the bacterial disease is not on an orchard owned, managed or growing T&G kiwifruit varieties, but is located approximately 1km from the nearest T&G kiwifruit orchard.

T&G said that regular weekly testing of its orchards and varieties in Kerikeri and all other growing locations had so far returned negative results, and the group said that it had implemented strict orchard management procedures in Kerikeri kiwifruit orchards.

'All necessary precautions are being taken to mitigate any risk of spread and T&G will be working with all parties in Kerikeri while the secondary test is undertaken to confirm or otherwise the suspected result today,' the group said.

Kiwifruit Vine Health and Zespri will keep T&G fully advised on the development, and T&G will, in turn, update the market on any developments regarding its own orchards in the Kerikeri area, T&G noted.
