Seeka kiwifruit picking

New Zealand biosecurity officials have confirmed that Psa-V has now been found in nine of the 204 kiwifruit orchards in Waikato.

Biosecurity officer Jeanie McInnes told the Waikato Regional Council this week that the infected Waikato orchards were mostly in the Waihi area, the Waikato Times reported.

McInnes said that the council was working together with Kiwifruit Vine Health (KVH) to stop the spread of Psa-V, with restrictions on dumping and the of mapping orchards taking place.

KVH is now under new leadership, with Barry O'Neil replacing John Burke as chief executive on 5 March.

According to new statistics released today, 1094 orchards have been identified with Psa-V, most of them in the Te Puke region, with 80 per cent of New Zealand's kiwifruit hectares in a priority zone and 41 per cent on an orchard identified with Psa-V.
