Psa-V, the deadly vine disease that continues to take its toll on New Zealand's kiwifruit industry, has apparently been found in Te Kaha for the first time.

In its latest bulletin, Kiwifruit Vine Health reported that a provisional test had turned up a positive result in Te Kaha, with the Opotiki Priority Zone now extended to include the Te Kaha area.

Some 927 kiwifruit orchards are now infected with Psa, of which 773 orchards are located in the Te Puke region, 58 are in Tauranga, 46 in Whakatane, 27 in Opotiki, 10 in Katikati, 10 in Waihi and three in Franklin. 50 per cent are Gold and 33 per cent are Green.
