Around 300 Spanish agricultural workers staged a protest during the opening of Andalusian fresh produce trade fair Expo Agro-Almería, preventing the event from staging an official inauguration ceremony for the first time in its 25 year history.
Protestors, who are demanding that the Spanish authorities take action over soaring production costs and falling agricultural incomes, greeted the arrival of Andalusian agriculture minister Clara Aguilera with boos and whistles, forcing the abandonment of the opening ceremony.
According to El País, the demonstration also led to the first day of the exhibition closing its doors to the public three hours earlier than was originally scheduled.
