Aldi Nord endured a drop in profit during 2011, according to preliminary data revealed by German publication Lebensmittel Zeitung.
Annual accounts for 18 out of the 35 regional divisions show that, while sales increased slightly, profits dropped by €55m on the same period of the previous year, Planet Retail reported.
Greater competition in Germany and lower prices in the group's non-food business have been cited as reasons for the decline in profit.
