Reports in the US have suggested that this year's national apple crop could be a bumper one.
Despite potentially lighter crops in New York and Michigan, the country's main apple-producing state, Washington, could be set for record volumes, Capital Press reported.
Following meetings attended by industry stakeholders, the US fresh and processing apple crop has been pegged at 260m 40lb boxes, potentially the third largest on record, with Washington likely to smash its record of 128.8m boxes with a crop of 140m-150m boxes.
These volumes could put pressure on prices, Capital Press noted, unless Washington is able to export some 60m boxes - its record for exports stands at 40.5m boxes.
