A number of potato producers based in the Netherlands, Belgium and France are looking to join forces in order to counteract testing market conditions and low prices, according to leading Dutch farming publication Agrarisch Dagblad.
The newspaper reports that a new pan-European organisation called United Potato Growers Association of Europe (UPGE) has already been established, with a declaration of intent expected to be signed by the group's founding members in mid-January.
According to Dutch association NAV, the new organisation will encourage better sharing of market information as well as improving the balance between supply and demand.
The group hopes to attract members in Germany and the UK at a later stage, Fruitnet.com understands.
