US Port of Los Angeles

The Port of Los Angeles has released its September 2012 cargo figures, with overall volumes up 5.57 percent compared to the same month last year – the strongest single-month in volume terms since August 2010.

The US port saw imports increase 3.38 per cent, from 372,655 Twenty-Foot Equivalent (TEU) containers in September 2011 to 385,250 TEUs this September, while exports decreased 2.56 per cent from 176,954 TEUs to 172,432 TEUs.

Combined, total loaded imports and exports for August increased 1.47 per cent, from 549,609 TEUs last September to 557,683 TEUs.

Factoring in empties, which increased 20.01 per cent year-over-year, overall September 2012 volumes (744,923 TEUs) increased 5.57 per cent compared to September 2011 (705,623 TEUs). It was the busiest month since August 2010, when overall volumes reached 763,837 TEUs.

For the first nine months of 2012, overall container volumes have increased 5.16 per cent (6.19m TEUs) compared to the same period in 2011 (5.88m TEUs).
