Hamburg-based fresh produce group Port International has today announced the unexpected passing of Jochen Kegeler, a 43-year veteran of the German group.
Mr Kegeler, who retired from the company at the end of 2008, held numerous roles throughout his career at Port International, ranging from sales to heading up the group's wholesale operations.
'Jochen Kegeler had extensive technical understanding and an incomparable instinct for the market,' said Mike Port, CEO of Port International, in a statement. 'As an 'old hand', he passed on his knowledge to the younger generation.
We say deep thanks for his dedication. He worked as a unique personality in the fruit trade and we are proud to have had him in our team for so long,' he added. 'Our sympathy goes to his relatives. We are grateful to remember him.'
