Spanish fruit breeder Planasa has said it has received “strong interest” in its new range of stonefruit varieties, which are being marketed under the ‘Sweet’ brandname, at a fruit show organised by Catalan food research agency IRTA.
The Navarra-based company presented 10 new peach and nectarine ‘Sweet’-branded varieties at the event in the town of Soses, which it said were “characterised by their quality and high Brix (sugar) content, a factor increasingly demanded by consumers”.
In a statement, Planasa’s Francisco Murillo said: “This group contains the peach Plagold 22, the nectarine Zincal 30 and the Platerinas (a flat peach-nectarine hybrid) Platina 40 and Planasol 50, which will complement Planasa’s total fruit offer.”
Murillo added that Planasa planned to shortly add more varieties to the Sweet range, which have been developed for northern Spanish growing conditions.
