At this week’s London Produce Show in the UK, Egyptian producer-exporter Pico Modern Agriculture will be showcasing its new range of table grapes, which have been developed especially to meet early- and late-season demands.
As one of Sun World’s exclusive licensees and growers in Egypt, Pico will use the show to highlight the newest additions to its Sun World varietal offer, including Sable, Midnight Beauty and Red Superior, as well as a trial plantation of Scarlotta.
Pico’s Alaa Diab said the company hoped to use the event to work towards integration with other Sun World growers around the world, with the potential to adopt joint marketing approaches in order to achieve better returns.
In addition to grapes, Pico will also be shining a spotlight on new stonefruit varieties, including peaches (Supech 15), nectarines (Sunect 21) and plums (Suplum 25 and Suplum 41).
“Pico is committed to delivering the best quality stonefruit and grapes to our clients and to introducing new varieties that can be grown in Egypt,” said Diab. “We are in continuous communication with Sun World on new varieties and also communicate with the supermarkets to find out which trends and demands they foresee, so that we can plan our production accordingly.”
Pico equally exported its first volumes of Hass avocados to UK retailer Marks & Spencer in 2014 and has revealed plans to greatly expand shipments into the UK and other European markets.
In addition, Pico has developed its basket of exotics over the last 12 months, exporting its first volumes of lychees, loquats, pomegranates and mangoes.
