Freshfel Europe has held its annual general meeting (AGM) in Brussels, Belgium, with its members celebrating its tenth anniversary while also electing a new board for the term 2012-2014.
At the AGM, Freshfel elected Philippe Henri of Creno/UNCGFL as its new president, with Luc Clerx (Zespri) as vice-president and Jerome Fabre (Compagnie Fruitiere) as treasurer.
'I want to thank Freshfel members for their confidence in electing me in the position of chairman of the association,' said Henri. 'I am honoured by the support and this is a strong encouragement to conduct my duty for the benefit of the sector as a whole. I will do my utmost to coordinate Freshfel’s structure to best collate industry opinions and secure that Freshfel is not only reactive but remains proactive on all policy issues but also on other industry collective topics where we should take the lead.'
Members used the AGM to recognise the work of Ramon Rey, who led the association from 2008-2012.
'While departing, I am leaving behind a strong and professional association, well positioned to assist the sector in coping with the ever increasing challenges,' noted Rey. 'Well equipped with the support of its members, Freshfel will continue its efforts to build the most favourable environment for fresh produce in Europe.'
Freshfel members discussed the present and future environment of the fresh produce sector at the AGM, along with invited speakers and guests from the public and private areas, with the association facing an extensive European policy agenda in the coming months.
