The new Philadelphia Wholesale Produce Market (PWPM) will open its doors for the first day of business on Sunday 3 April 2011 after the final day of trading at the old location concludes on Thursday 31 March 2011.
The news follows the signing of official paperwork on Friday 4 February when responsibility of the new building on Essington Avenue was transferred from the builder, O’Neill Properties Group, to the traders of PWPM.
“It is an historic day at the Philadelphia Wholesale Produce Market,” Sonny DiCrecchio, PWPM president and CEO, said in a press release.
“After 10 years of planning, building and overseeing the completion of the new market, it is encouraging to know that we are in the home stretch before officially moving in and utilizing the space and technology within the building to improve the way that we do business.”
While trade have now officially taken over responsibility of the new facility, modifications and updates are expected to continue to take place over the next six to eight weeks during the moving-in process.
Equipped with technologically-advanced cooling and communications systems, over 200 loading dock doors, and a recycling and waste management centre, PWPM said its facility is well positioned to serve buyers into the future.
“Maintaining the cold chain, exceeding the standards for produce wholesale facility food safety and providing more access points for buyers, the building itself defines the dedication of the merchants of our market to the success of our customers,” PWPM said.
