The Philadelphia Wholesale Produce Market (PWPM), Philadelphia Regional Port Authority and O'Neill Properties Group has announced today that the ribbon cutting for the new state-of-the-art, 700,000ft2 market now located at Essington Avenue is scheduled for Friday 25 March.
The event will be attended by several guests, including mayor Michael Nutter, and other city and state officials.
'We are looking forward to the ribbon cutting as a way to commemorate all the hard work that has gone into making the new market a reality,' said Sonny DiCrecchio, PWPM's president and CEO. 'After ten years of planning, building and overseeing the completion of this one-of-a-kind facility, we are excited to celebrate with the community as we officially open our doors for business.'
Some of the benefits of the market include providing the region with high-quality fresh produce, bringing thousands of jobs to the area, and maintaining the cold chain more effectively, thereby supplying customers of PWPM with fresher products with a longer shelf life.
The market will officially open its doors for the first day of business on Sunday 3 April 2011, serving customers within a 500-mile radius with high-quality fresh produce.
