Philadelphia Wholesale Market managers

L-R: Tad Thompson, Dan Kane and Sonny DiCrecchio

The Philadelphia Wholesale Market has announced in a statement the appointment of a new business development manager.

Sonny DiCrecchio, the market’s the president and CEO, said industry veteran Tad Thompson will take up the post as of 22 August.

Before joining the market, Thompson has primarily worked for The Produce News as a freelance writer since 2002 after entering the produce industry in 1977 as The Packer’s eastern editor.

“Given his long experience, there are few people who understand the positioning of our market better than Tad,” DiCrecchio said.

“He has a very broad understanding of all aspects of our industry and knows its key players, which is what we need to help the 26 stockholders of the Philadelphia Wholesale Produce Market build their business.”

Thompson said he is thrilled by the opportunity to pull together a wide variety of his experiences to boost a “fantastic industry asset”.

The new Philadelphia Wholesale Market, which opened to business on 5 June, claims to be the world’s largest fully-refrigerated terminal market with almost 700,000ft2 of refrigerated space.

The facility is also the largest-known central refrigeration system in the world, with 2,800 tonnes of refrigeration holding over 250,000lbs of Freon, according to managers.
