Peter Hostens, former director of Univeg Belgium and one-time head of fresh produce buying at Carrefour Belgium, has left Univeg after 10 years with the group.
Speaking to Eurofruit, Hostens confirmed he had decided to focus on growing his own company, Katsima, which offers interim management services to companies in the the fresh food and retail industries.
He said he hoped to draw on more than 25 years' experience in supply chain management, retail and category management in establishing his own business.
Before joining Univeg in 2004, Hostens was responsible for Carrefour's sourcing, negotiation and supply chain for fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, flowers and plants, as well as bakery and pastry products.
He went on to become managing director of Univeg's import and Legumex Trade units, taking charge of fresh produce sourcing, imports, packing and distribution for the Belgian retail market.
Since 2011, however, he had been operating as an director of Univeg Belgium in an independent advisory capacity.
