Peruvian blueberries will be able to access the Chinese market from this season, following an agreement reached by both countries during the state visit of president Pedro Pablo Kuczynski to China this week.
The protocol is expected to be signed at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum's Summit which takes place in Lima in mid-November.
The announcement was made after a meeting on Tuesday between China's AQSIQ deputy minister Mei Kebao and Senasa chief Jorge Barrenechea. The meeting also served to address pomegranate and quinoa grains.
The deal is a major breakthrough for the Andean nation, which has seen a surge in its blueberry acreage in the past three years.
Companies like Camposol and Talsa have been ramping up its blueberry production in recent seasons, with the former tripling its output to 14,000 tonnes in the past year alone.
