Peru banana export box

Peru's organic banana export business has boomed during the first ten months of the year, with year-on-year improvements in both monthly average value and quantities shipped.

According to Agraria.pe, exports of organic bananas brought in US$67m between January and October, with the monthly average income of US$6.7m representing an increase of 28 per cent on the same period of 2011.

Volumes also climbed, up 20 per cent year-on-year to an average 9,800 tonnes per month.

The Netherlands proved the most active importing market, taking on 53 per cent of the ten-month total at a value of US$35.6m, with the US proving the second-largest market at 21 per cent of total exports, valued at US$13.9m.

The leading exporter was the Association of Small Organic Producers, shipping 9 per cent of the toal for US$5.7m, Agraria.pe reported.
