Mandarins accounted for 88 per cent of Peruvian citrus exports in 2015, with shipments reaching 100,800 tonnes according to producer guild ProCitrus.
The guild said Satsumas, Clementines, Murcotts and Minneolas have become the country’s top citrus exports, which totalled 115,122 tonnes last year and generated US$123m in revenue.
ProCitrus said Peru was the largest mandarin exporter in Latin America and the seventh in the world ranking.
Its main markets include the US, which took US$41.8m in 2015, UK (US$29.6m), Netherlands (US$16.6m) and Canada (US$11.4m).
Peru’s citrus export volume is forecast to grow by 15 per cent in 2016, ProCitrus said. The association is organising the IX International Seminar on Citrus Fruit which is due to be held in Lima on 19-20 April.
