The Peruvian Exporters Association (Adex) has praised the rapid response to new US airfreight regulations from the country’s authorities after a new scanner was installed at Lima’s Jorge Chávez international airport last Wednesday (3 March).
The scanner was donated by the US embassy and will be used to inspect imports and exports at the airport, in accordance with a new ruling which requires all airfreight exports to the US to pass through a scanner from August onwards.
The move forms part of an effort to equip both air and sea ports in Peru with the necessary infrastructure to guarantee the uninterrupted flow of trade, according to Adex.
Around 50 per cent of Peruvian airfreight shipments are made in the belly of passenger planes, and some airlines are already demanding scans of cargo.
