Peruvian table grape suppliers are beginning to diversify their varietal offer, according to leading industry players.
Until now, exports have remained concentrated on the Red Globe variety, which accounts for around 74 per cent of the export crop.
However, Isabel Quiróz of iQonsulting claims that Peruvian suppliers are growing more green grapes as well as seedless red varieties.
Increases in exports of Flame, Crimson, Sugraone and other grape varieties are therefore tipped to come on stream in the near future.
Camposol, Peru’s largest fresh produce exporter, is just one company which has begun to broaden its grape offer in order to suit consumer requirements, according to chief commercial officer José Antonio Gómez.
Gómez said the shift towards other varieties is also designed to add value to the country’s grape offer and boost Peru’s presence on different and dynamic markets.
“Camposol has a plan to expand our planted area to 1,000ha and to incorporate the production of seedless grapes as well as other varieties, and club or protected varieties,” he revealed.
“This year we will install a trial lot to manage the different varieties as a way to discovering the more profitable and high yielding options for production in northern Peru.”
