Peruvian exports to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) totalled US$2.5m during the first four-month period of 2011, an increase of 36 per cent against the year-earlier period, according to figures from the Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL) and reported by Andina.
Of that total, food shipments represented US$626,000; registering a 78 per cent rise in comparison to the same four-period a year earlier.
CCL claims processed foods, fruits and vegetables are among the products mostly in demand from the UAE, which Peru can provide although direct shipping lines between the two markets are needed.
Currently, all Peruvian exports to UAE are non-traditional goods, which CCL said offers added value and generates a greater labour supply.
Last year, Peruvian exports to the UAE reached some US$7m, up 80 per cent compared with 2009, according to CCL.
Peru sent some US$95m-worth of goods to the Middle East as a whole in 2010, the report said.
