The Peruvian agriculture industry is looking forward to a 10 per cent growth in export value during 2010 as international markets get back on their feet following the economic recession which affected trade last year.
In 2009, total sendings of Peruvian traditional and non-traditional agricultural items fell by 4 per cent in value to US$2.461m against the year earlier, according to the country’s exporter association (Adex).
Fruits and vegetables – two of Peru’s most important agricultural export items – experienced mixed results last year, Adex said, with fruit sales rising by 14 per cent while vegetable sendings fell by 9 per cent in value terms.
During the first two months of 2010 total agricultural exports reached US$386.9m, according to Adex, up 19 per cent on the year-earlier period.
Shipments including asparagus, table grapes, mangoes, artichokes, peppers, avocados, bananas and citrus, among other items, including non fresh produce goods.
