Peru has asked Vietnam to expand access for its agricultural exports during an official visit to the South American country by Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai.
During the visit Peru’s Prime Minister Oscar Eduardo Valdes Dancuart told Deputy Prime Minister Hai he hoped the two countries could strengthen relations, both economically and politically.
The two discussed Peru’s plans to open an embassy in Hanoi, and Prime Minister Dancuart invited Vietnam to do the same in Lima.
Peru’s President Ollanta Humala is also set to visit Vietnam later this year, reported Talk Vietnam.
The Vietnamese market has been a growing destination for Peruvian fruit, and grapes in particular have done well in the early part of this year.
Peru’s large Red Globe berry size this season has hit the mark in the quality-conscious Vietnamese market, according to importers.
“We have seen some good returns and volumes are increasing,” Do Nguyen Thy Linh of major Vietnamese trader Fruits & Greens told Asiafruit.
