Peapod small

Web-based grocer Peapod, which is owned by Ahold, has announced that it is opening 100 new virtual stores at train stations throughout Boston, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Washington DC and Chicago.

The expansion follows an initial opening in Chicago, which then grew to include 16 more virtual stores in the Chicago area, Planet Retail reported.

'Getting your groceries on the way home from work just got a whole new meaning,' said Mike Brennan chief operating officer of Peapad. 'With schedules that are more demanding than ever and people spending 200-plus hours a year in trasit, our hope is that consumers will take advantage of our virtual stores and mobile app while they're on the go and enjoy the time saved when they're at home.'
