Ireland-based tropical fruit importer Fyffes has announced that Paul Clüver is to retire as a non-executive director of the group and will not be seeking re-election at the company's next annual general meeting, due to be held in Dublin on 12 May 2011.
Mr Clüver, who is well known to many in the international fresh produce trade as chairman of South African fresh produce company Capespan Group, a position he has held since 1999, will therefore step down as a non-executive director of Fyffes with effect from 30 April 2011.
Commenting on the decision, Fyffes chairman David McCann said Mr Clüver had been a non-executive director of the group since 1999 and had decided not to seek re-election on the basis of the length of time he had served on the board.
'I would like to thank Paul for his valued advice while a director of Fyffes, during which period the group has gone through much change and development,' Mr McCann said.
He added: 'Paul's wisdom and his knowledge of the fresh produce industry have always been of great assistance to the board. We wish him well for the future.'
