According to French interprofessional organisation Interfel, a huge sale of 60 tonnes of fruit and vegetables took place on 21 August in and around Paris as a protest against the pricing practices of French supermarkets and hypermarkets.
The sale was organised by Modef, a union of family farmers, and included products such as tomatoes, peaches, nectarines, melons and salads.
According to a press release, the idea to sell direct to the consumer was aimed at “denouncing the practices of retailers and demanding that the government take urgent action”.
